Q: Why do some stylists charge more than others?
A: Most stylists increase their prices according to their experience and expertise. A good indication that a pricing increase is necessary is when guests pre-book for their next appointment to the point that the stylist's book becomes full, requiring a waiting list.
Q: Do all stylists do all services?
A: No. As each new technique becomes available, only the most motivated and talented stylists attend educational classes in order to offer the new services.
Q: How do I know which stylists to request when I am making an appointment?
A: Give as much information as possible about your hair, your challenges, and the outcome you expect, when making your initial appointment, or request a free consultation. Our owner, Mary, often takes these consultation appointments because she really does know each stylist's strong points, and will always recommend new guests to the person who she feels is best suited.
Q: Why is hair color so expensive?
A: The actual cost of the hair color is not all that is involved in our pricing decisions, although that is certainly a big factor. We also take into account the many hours and days of continuing education that is necessary in order to keep up with quickly changing trends and advanced techniques. Again, the more advanced a stylist is in a particular field, the more he or he will charge.
Q: Even though I go to a stylist with my own ideas, should I listen to their suggestions too?
A: Absolutely, yes! One of the things that make a stylist above average is the ability to "see" face and body shapes, and recommend styles that flatter and enhance the guest's overall look.
Also, a really terrific stylist will make suggestions based on your blow dry abilities, the time you have available to spend on your hair, and your clothing and lifestyle choices. I think it's great to know what you want, but the best styles occur when stylist and guest discuss all of the above. After all, if your hair only looks great on the day you get it cut and styled, and you cannot repeat it, is it really the right look for you?
Q: How do I know which relaxer I need? There are so many out there right now that I am really confused!
A: Probably more than most services, it is really important that you make an appointment with a stylist who EXCELS in relaxing services!
You're right; there are so many options, and it can be really hard to know which way to go, but a stylist who does these as a specialty knows exactly how to recommend the correct service for your individual needs.
Never make price the primary reason you book with an individual when it comes to these very delicate chemical processes. Color can be redone; a haircut can be tweaked; but a poorly executed relaxer can have devastating results!
